Charles Joseph Doyle M.D. F.A.C.R.

Charles Joseph Doyle, M.D. F.A.C.R., 78, of Estero, FL, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Formerly of Bath, OH, he had been an Estero resident since 2004. He was born February 3, 1939 in Cleveland, OH, the son of Arthur J. and Helen Lorine (née Holloway) Doyle. Dr. Doyle was a veteran (Captain) of the U.S. Air Force, and a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal-Outstanding Unit Citation National Service Medal. Charles was a Board Certified Interventional and Diagnostic Radiologist who was well respected by his colleagues and peers in the medical community. Charles received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. After matriculation from Georgetown University, Charles received his Medical Degree from The Ohio State University. Following medical school, Dr. Doyle began a rotating internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. After completing his rotating internship, Dr. Doyle completed his residency in Radiology at St. Luke's Hospital. Subsequently, Dr. Doyle became an Associate with St. Luke's Radiologists, Inc. In 1973, Dr. Doyle became a partner in Drs. Hill and Thomas Co. specializing in Radiology and Medical Imaging, and in 1983 he became the Director of Drs. Hill and Thomas. Then in 1994, Dr. Doyle was elected as Chairman of the Board with Drs. Hill and Thomas. Dr. Doyle served as Chairman in the Department of Radiology at Southwest General Hospital and was Chairman of the Department of Medical Imaging at St. Alexis Hospital Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. During this time, Dr. Doyle became the Director of Physicians Insuring Exchange Mutual Insurance Company of Cleveland, Ohio where he also served as Vice Chairman of the Board, Member of Executive Committee, Chairman, Cleveland Peer Review Board, and Chairman of the Radiological Claims Review Committee. In 1996, Dr. Doyle was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Doyle was an active member of many professional associations including: The American Medical Association, The Ohio State Medical Association, The Cleveland Academy of Medicine, The American College of Radiology, The Radiological Society of North America, The Ohio State Radiological Society and Cleveland Radiological Society. Charles enjoyed spending his off duty time with his family and friends. Charles enjoyed boating and fishing. He went on many fishing trips including trips to the Arctic Circle, Costa Rica, and Alaska. Charles and his family had a vacation retreat in Chautauqua Lake, New York where he enjoyed boating and fishing with his family during the summer and skiing during the winter months. Charles and his family also enjoyed a vacation retreat in Siesta Key, Florida where he and his family enjoyed the local beaches, boating, fishing and dining. It was the frequent trips to Florida that led he and his wife to eventually retire in Estero, Florida. Charles was also an auto enthusiast and enjoyed classic cars to sports cars, especially Cadillacs and Corvettes. Charles was a man of kindness, intelligence, and integrity. He was a personable fellow, always quick with a joke, and sometimes lengthy jokes that you would try to remember and duplicate for your friends, but never could. Charles was a giving man. He gave his whole life. He gave to his patients, he gave to his wife, he gave to his children and he gave to his family. What more can be said? A man that gives during his lifetime is surely given a seat in the most glorious part of heaven. Our father, our friend. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary A. (née Jankowski) Doyle; his beloved children, John (Alicia) Doyle of Falmouth, ME, Dan Doyle of Castle Rock, CO, Peter Doyle of Bonita Springs, FL, Sally (Gustavo) Morais of Marina Del Rey, CA and Andrew (Amelia Gonzalez) Doyle of Seattle, WA; his sisters, Mary (John) Sauter Hoffman of New Albany, IN and Ann Daniels of Cleveland, OH; and three cherished grandchildren, Andrea Doyle, Jacqueline Doyle and Marcos Morais. Lastly, the Doyle family would like to thank the staff of Hope Hospice and Life Care Center of Estero for the wonderful care he received. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers, Florida. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home.
