Douglas L. Meyer

Douglas L. Meyer, 61, of Fort Myers, FL, died on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at his residence after a courageous 14-month battle with Glioblastoma. Doug was born on January 18, 1962, in McHenry, IL, the exceptional middle child of the late Alan M. and Rosemarie (Lord) Meyer. He was a longtime resident of Arlington Heights, IL, and then retired to Fort Myers, FL in January 2022. He was a graduate of Deerfield High School in Deerfield, IL, and continued his undergraduate studies at Marquette University, receiving his degree in finance in 1984. He later attended DePaul University, where he earned his MBA in 1989, and soon after became a Certified Financial Analyst. In 1984, he began his career with Allstate Insurance Company and after 4 years, joined MetLife. He then worked for Duff and Phelps, a credit rating company, where he served as Vice President from 1994 thru 2001 when Duff and Phelps was acquired by Fitch Ratings Company. He then served as a Managing Director for Fitch Ratings from 2001 until his retirement in 2022. Doug was an avid golfer and organized many golf outings for his work and neighborhood. One that he was most proud of was the Ivy Hill vs the Greenbrier Tin Cup, which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next month. He loved all sports, including but not limited to football, golf, pickleball, fishing, and especially his beloved Chicago Cubs and Bulls. For the past 36 years, he has been a member of the RPS Fantasy Baseball League with his longtime friends. But most of all, Doug loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Karla A. Meyer of Ft. Myers, FL; two sons, Brendan D. Meyer (Laura) of Chicago, IL, and Justin J. Meyer of Aviano, Italy; one daughter, Stephanie R. Meyer (Nicholas Baron) of Chula Vista, CA, and his 4 brothers, Keith Meyer of Kansas City, KS, Brian Meyer of Alpharetta, GA, Steve Meyer (Robin) of Arlington Heights, IL, and Garret Meyer (Lesley) of Bristol, TN. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Wild Blue Amenities Center, 18701 Wild Blue Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33913. Additional services for Doug will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kemper Country Club, 24000 N. Old McHenry Rd., Kildeer, IL.
