James William Ebersoldt

James W. Ebersoldt 79, of Estero, FL, and a former resident of Glen Carbon, IL, died on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, after an extended illness. He was born on June 25, 1944, in Granite City, IL, a son of the late William M. and Irene B. (Loescher) Ebersoldt. Jim had been a winter resident of Bonita Springs since 2004 and became a permanent resident in 2019. He was a graduate of Venice High School in Venice, IL. In 1965, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served a two-year term. He was a very proud veteran. Soon after returning from service, Jim began his career with the Union Electric Company, Sioux Plant (now Ameren UE) in West Alton, MO. He spent his entire career with Union Electric and retired in 2003 after 34 years. Jim was a talented woodworker and handyman. He would help anybody with any of their projects from installing baseboards, plumbing projects, roofing, and even electrical projects. He liked playing golf and enjoyed traveling, but most of all he enjoyed talking to people. Always quick to compliment, smile and share a joke, Jim never knew a stranger. He loved life and music, singing, dancing, and laughing, but most of all Jim loved being with his beautiful family and friends. He is simply unforgettable. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Susan J. Ebersoldt of Estero, FL; two daughters, Kimberly A. Botello (Fred) of Murietta, CA, and Kristie L. Hurst (Paul) of St. Louis, MO; three stepchildren, Robert J. Van Patten (Kimberly), Deborah V. Salamon and Timothy M. Van Patten (Shannon) all of Edwardsville, IL; six grandchildren, Kerri A. Botello, Chase J. Botello, Christian T. Botello, Nicholas A. Hurst, Madison K. Hurst and Molli K. Hurst and six step-grandchildren, John R. Van Patten, Alec R. Van Patten, Blake A Salamon-Romero (Katherine), Ryan M. Salamon, Cole R. Van Patten and Carlie S. Van Patten. He is also survived by his brother, Neil C. Ebersoldt (Nancy) of St. Louis, MO, his sister, Jean I. Stoff of St. Louis, MO, and his beloved Maltese, Mac. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pricilla A. (neé Sharp) Ebersoldt in 2002. Celebrations of Life will take place in Estero, FL, and in Edwardsville, IL A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The Rookery, 9960 Coconut Road, Estero, FL 34135.
