Clifford W. Schaefer

Clifford W. Schaefer 87, of North Fort Myers, FL passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019. He was born July 13, 1932, a son of the late Andrew and Marjorie (Dawley) Schaefer. He was born in New Britain, CT and lived the majority of his life in East Hartford, CT before recently moving to Florida in the winter of 2017. After graduating high school he proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army, working on anti-aircraft guns during the Korean War. After completing his service for our country, he began his over 48-year career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He started as a Jet Engine Metalsmith Apprentice completing 6,000 hours of training. He continued as a Tool and Gage Inspector and was promoted to Foreman and then to Senior Group Supervisor before retiring. Cliff enjoyed his work at Pratt & Whitney and he was one of the few that remained employed with the company giving over 45 years of service. His skill at work extended to his many hobbies outside of work. He was a master craftsman. He enjoyed building and fixing to the finest detail. Cliff had a great passion and love for cars and airplanes. He was an avid collector of cars and spent many hours rebuilding and detailing his corvettes and also building model airplanes. His prized possession was his 1958 corvette. He also was a very skilled woodworker. He loved to build wooden clocks and all he created were unique in design. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline (Brielo) Schaefer and his only daughter, Sue (Schaefer) Congdon. Cliff is survived by his loving son-in-law, Garth Congdon of North Fort Meyers, FL who cared for him for many years. His sisters, Barbara and Ray Miller of South Windsor, CT and Sandra and Steven Eiss of North Carolina. Also, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Those closest to Cliff are so grateful to his loving and caring friends and neighbors in East Hartford, CT for their help in closing the homestead before moving south. The family appreciates the compassion and care provided by the Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL and the Veterans Association in Cape Coral, FL.
