Doris Marguerite Deese Lloyd

Doris Marguerite Deese Lloyd, 78, of Naples, formerly of Delray Beach, died Thursday, August 18, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on May 22, 1944, in West Palm Beach, and lived her entire life in Delray Beach until March of 2022, when she was moved to Naples to be closer to family. Doris was a daughter of John Wesley and Marguerite Leturmy Deese, both part of the pioneering families of Delray Beach and Boca Raton. She was part of the first graduating class of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School in Delray Beach, a parish her family helped found on land her grandfather, Louis J. Leturmy donated. She was also a 1962 graduate of Seacrest High School, now Atlantic High School, located in Delray Beach. After graduation, Doris went to work at Southern Bell, where she continued to work until her son was born in 1975. She and her husband, George, were very active at St. Vincent Ferrer, while their kids attended the school. Between the Home & School Association, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and everything else in between, she kept herself busy while making lifelong friends, and carrying on the friendships from her school days at St. Vincent Ferrer. For a short time, she ran the church thrift shop for then Pastor, and friend, Rev. Fr. John A. Skehan. Because of this woman, and her family, newcomers and tourists are able to enjoy Delray Beach, today. Doris was predeceased by her husband, George, on October 10, 2012; her sister, Elizabeth, on February 16, 2017; her parents, and all of her aunts and Uncles whom she was so close to. She is survived by her son, John M. (Rebecca) Lloyd of Estero, Florida; her daughter, Doris Michelle, of Boynton Beach, Florida; and her many loving cousins and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, 19680 Cypress View Drive, Fort Myers, with Rev. Fr. Hugh J. McGuigan, OSFS, presiding. Committal Services and burial will take place at the Delray Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations, in Doris' name, to Our Lady of Light Catholic Community. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home and Crematory Family Owned and Operated Since 1978.
