Dorothy M. Patten

Dorothy M. Patten of Bonita Springs, FL and formerly of Butler, PA died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at her residence. She had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 2001 having resided in Ft. Wayne, IN from 1993 thru 2001. Dorothy was born in Sewickley, PA, a daughter of the late Merle O. and Blanche (neé Oesterling) Kurtz. She spent 27 years working as a secretary at Summit Elementary Schools in Butler, Pennsylvania retiring in 1974. After moving to Ft. Wayne she worked part time for the Kids at Heart Toy store that was owned by her son and daughter-in-law. She was a former member at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Butler. Dorothy was an avid reader and read several books a week. She was an excellent cook and hand wrote her family recipes into books for her daughters and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed family get togethers. She and Cliff made frequent trips to the nursery to purchase flowering plants and shrubs. She was a hard worker. After her first husband died, she worked 3 jobs to support and put her three children through college. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Clifford A. Patten of Bonita Springs, FL; one son, Roger H. Holly and his wife, Mimi of Ft. Myers, FL; two daughters, Constance Jo Johnson and her husband, Bruce of Virginia Beach, VA and Terri Rae Clark and her husband, E. Paul of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Christina (Kyle) Katzenmeyer of Ft. Myers, FL, Heidi Clark of Indianapolis, IN, Eric Clark of Denver, CO, Erika (Rob) Guess of Virginia Beach, VA and Holly Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA and four great grandchildren, Claire, Callie, Robbie and Reid. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Joseph Holly who died in 1958. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home 28300 So. Tamiami Tr., Bonita Springs.
