Douglas Alan Newman

Douglas Newman, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his winter home in Bonita Springs, FL on February 26th. He is survived by his wife Suzanne (Lindstrom) of 41 years, his two children - Christine (Jason) Renaldo, 33, of Angola, NY and William, 36, of Buenos Aires, Argentina and his brother Russell, 75, of Miami, FL. Doug was born December 30, 1948 and was the youngest son of Albert and Doris Newman of Silver Creek, NY. He attended Silver Creek High School followed by Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, NY (now Clarkson University), graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Doug was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and had maintained close friendships with his fraternity brothers for more than 50 years. After a brief stint in Ohio, Doug moved home to Silver Creek and successfully ran, with his brother Russ, the family businesses: Excelco Developments Inc. and Newbrook Machine Corp. for 37 years - something he loved so much he did not consider it work. Upon retirement, Doug and Sue began splitting their time between New York and Florida. Doug tirelessly served every community he was a part of over the decades. He was on many boards, including Lake Shore Hospital, Tri-County Country Club and his condo community in Florida. He was a Founding Member of the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, he was the Treasurer of the Dunkirk Yacht Club, was an Assistant Scout Master during Will’s time in Boy Scouts, and he faithfully served as the “buoy boy” maintaining the summer swimming area for the Hanford Bay Association for more than 40 years. In his free time, Doug enjoyed boating, golfing with his wife, and spending time with his family and many lifelong friends - particularly in Hanford Bay where he taught half the neighborhood to water ski and arguably had the cleanest beach due to his happy place being on his tractor or in one of his workshops fixing anything, and everything, imaginable. Memorial services will be held in Western New York later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home Family Owned and Operated Since 1978.
