Edward James Furmanick

Edward James Furmanick “Life is a ride. Enjoy the ride.” Edward J. Furmanick, husband, father, grandfather, and jokester extraordinaire, passed from this life on earth on April 30, 2021 in Bonita Springs, Florida. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) O’Grady; daughter Elisa Lueck and her fiancé Anthony Matos; daughter Erin (Mark) Schmit; granddaughters Morgan Lueck and Madison Lueck; brother Michael Furmanick; sisters Mary Gerbrands and Janet Maxwell; and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Kathryn Fadgen, with whom he shared a birthday, 15 years apart. Ed was born on April 10, 1940 and spent his childhood in Clinton, Massachusetts. He followed his high school sweetheart “Liz Ann” to Hialeah, Florida where they married and made their home. Ed worked in the auto body trade from a young age and found great joy throughout his life fiddling around with auto body parts, nuts, bolts and screws in his garage. He worked for 23 years at Eastern Airlines, spent 18 years working with Pan Am International Flight Academy, and owned his own auto body business, MBL Industries. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his family and, as he got older, to order far too much stuff from Amazon Prime. Ed loved the simple things in life: taking his daughters to the stock car races, breakfast at Ranch House and Denny’s, tending to his yard, a good bowl of cereal, and telling jokes to anyone who would listen. Some of his favorite quips were “one day I was sick for a week” and “never look up to a pigeon”, and he pondered why we drive on parkways and park on driveways. He joked right up to the end, in classic Ed style, and for that we are eternally grateful. His one-of-a-kind spirit will live on forever. Services will be held on Thursday, May 6 at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home in Bonita Springs, Florida. Memorial visitation is scheduled from 2 – 3:30 PM, with a memorial service immediately following.
