Jackie Lea Overman

Jackie Lea (Bartley) Overman left this world for her eternal home on December 31, 2018. She was living in Bonita Springs, Florida. Jackie fought a long, brave battle with Scleoderma. Jackie was born March 27, 1956 to Gene and Peggy Bartley in Red Cloud Nebraska. She was the 5th child and was soon to be followed by a little brother. Her family of 8 lived in Red Cloud until Jackie was 4 years old when they moved to Colorado Springs. It was there that she attended Edison Elementary, Horace Mann Jr High and graduated from Wasson High School. Jackie went to College at Arizona State University in Phoenix AZ on a gymnastic scholarship. She competed in All-Around gymnastics. She loved all of the events but excelled especially in parallel bars. She competed extensively and nearly qualified for the Olympics. She met and soon married Dave Buescher while in college in 1978. They moved to California. They were blessed with two children, Jennifer and Matthew. After Jackie and Dave divorced, she returned to Colorado Springs to Wasson High School where she worked for nearly 20 years coaching high school gymnastics with her friend and mentor, Shirley Snyder. She also taught children tumbling. When she was no longer able to teach gymnastics she trained and worked as a gymnastics judge. She said her all-time favorite job was teaching gymnastics to preschoolers. Her class was called, “Tots and Tumbling”. She called it T.N.T and said her kids were, “Dynamite!” She met Jeff Overman while working as a server in a restaurant. Soon after she and Jeff married, they adopted Jeff’s two children, (Josh and Alyssa) from a previous marriage. Then, their marriage was blessed with two more children, Caitlynn and Jeffery. After Jackie and Jeff divorced, in 2010, Jackie moved to Florida for both health and family reasons. She loved living near her daughter, Jennifer’s family which enabled her to help care for her grandchildren (Jaslyn and Dylan). Nothing made her happier than teaching them to swim, reading stories and playing games with them. They were the light of her life. Jackie loved being a mother more than anything. She enjoyed many things; collecting rocks and special crystals, her dogs, riding horses, sewing, crafts, crocheting prayer squares and baby blankets and helping in her Caring Crafters group at First Baptist Church. She loved her church home where she met many new friends and grew in her faith. She loved sharing Jesus and talking about her favorite scriptures verses, poems and sayings. Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Gene Bartley. Jackie is survived by her mother Peggy Bartley of Colorado Springs; brothers Larry Bartley (Jacki) and Danny Bartley (Ginger) both of Colorado Springs; sisters Diana Bienkowski (Butch) of Hastings NE; Barbara Dodge of Lincoln NE and Kathleen Bartley of Phoenix AZ. Her children; Jennifer Buescher Wirtjes (Chris and children Jaslyn & Dylan) of Bonita Springs FL; Matthew Buescher of San Diego CA; Josh Overman (wife Nisa) of New Orleans LA; Alyssa Overman Duncan (Eric) of Colorado Springs; Caitlynn Overman Tanner (Don) of Gainesville FL; and Jeffery Overman of Colorado Springs as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces nephews, cousins, friends and other family who loved her dearly. Jackie will be dearly missed for her giving heart, spunky determination and bountiful love of family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home.
