James E. Fowler

James E. Fowler, (Jim) of Bonita Springs, Fl passed away on February 18, 2023, at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice. Jim was born on April 20, 1932, in Peterborough, Ontario, the only child of Ernest and Barbara (Gray) Fowler. He had been a resident of Bonita Springs for the past 15 years. Jim graduated from the University of Toronto Commerce and Finance program in 1954 and earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1957 while employed at Price Waterhouse accounting firm. He worked for the next 30 years at INCO mining company, in jobs of increasing responsibility starting in Sudbury, Ontario, and then Toronto, Philadelphia, and finally the New York head office. Jim married Margaret Martyn in 1956 and their love for each other was constant until his final hour. They had four children and spent many wonderful summers at their family cottages. Golf was Jim’s passion and wherever he lived, he found some wonderful golf buddies. At Pelican’s Nest, he played with the Creekside Boys several times each week. In 2010, Jim and his son David won Pelican Nest’s Annual Invitational. It was a proud and happy moment for father and son!! Jim was a member at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, on the vestry and also auditing the books. He loved to sing at church and at late-night gatherings of friends he could often be heard singing “Silent Night” no matter the time of year. He is remembered for his wit and care and love of family by his beloved wife Margaret, and their four children: David (Catherine) of Toronto, Michael (Anne) of Toronto, Karen of Toronto, and Douglas (Masumi) of Austin, Texas. He is remembered as a loving and fun grandfather by his grandchildren, Dylan, Rachel, Jacqueline, Siena, and Ruby. The family also wants to thank Jim’s long-term care team, especially Richard, Samantha, Sandria, and Kelli for their gentle help. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 11:00 at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, 9801 Bonita Beach Rd.
