Jerry Richard Lane

Jerry Richard Lane, 76, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed through death to New Life on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Surrounded by the love of his family, he died in Joanne's House of Hope Hospice. Formerly of Naperville, IL he had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 2000. Jerry was born March 7, 1940 in St. Cloud, MN to the late Raymond Oscar and Jessie (Baker) Lane. Mr. Lane was a United States Air Force Veteran and a graduate of Washburn University in Topeka, KS. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Joan B. (Kendzora) Lane; loving daughters, Sheryl Ann (Robert) Lane of Midland, MI and Janelle (Mark) Stevens of Kansas City, MO; brother, Dennis (Nancy) Lane of Clearwater, FL; and grandchildren, Anna, Sarah, Jared, Trevor and Tyler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Lane and sister, Susan Wertz. Over the course of his career, Jerry developed international and domestic risk management programs and served as an Assistant Vice President for McDonald's Corp. He retired in 1997. Among his colleagues, Jerry was regarded as a man of vision and integrity. After his retirement, and relocation to Florida, he, along with other like-minded residents of the Shadow Wood community organized and conducted fundraisers benefitting Habitat for Humanity in Lee and Hendry counties. After nine years, the group expanded their efforts and founded the Shadow Wood Charitable Foundation, Inc. which is committed to supporting charitable programs that improve the lives of Southwest Florida residents in need. Jerry enjoyed golf and international travel, with his wife, Joan. Through their trips and memberships at Naperville Country Club and Shadow Wood Country Club, he developed many deep friendships. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and greatly missed. Jerry's greatest sense of purpose was his family and he worked diligently to provide for them. Upon learning of his terminal cancer, he said his deepest sorrow was that he would not be present with Joan to watch their grandchildren grow up. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 3:00 - 6:00pm at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. A scripture service will begin at 5:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July, 28, 2016 at 10:30am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue N., Naples FL 34108 with Rev. Fr. John Ludden officiating. Burial will follow in the church memorial garden. Jerry will be remembered as a man with strength of character, generosity of spirit and kindness of heart.
