JoAn Brouwer

JoAn Brouwer 94, of Naples, FL and a former resident of Bonita Springs died Monday, February 22, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born September 1, 1926 in Springfield, MA a daughter of the late Granville W. and Ruth L. (née Hartenstein) Bull. She had been a seasonal resident since 1995 and a full-time resident since 2003. JoAn was a graduate of Bridgewater State University where she earned her Master’s degree in education. She impacted numerous lives as an elementary school teacher for decades in East Lyme, Connecticut. After her retirement and subsequently moving to Florida, she fell in love with Bonita Beach, sea shelling and especially the sunshine. She loved music and was always dancing around to the different beats. She was married to the love of her life, Peter H. Brouwer on April 1, 1957. They were married for 50 wonderful years until his untimely passing on November 15, 2007. She is survived by two sons, David Brouwer (Nancy) of Alvin, TX and Christopher Brouwer (Donald) of Franklin, NC; three stepsons, Peter Brouwer (Cindy) of Preston Hollow, NY, Steven Brouwer (Molly) of Lopez Island, WA and Jonathan Brouwer (Maria) of Waleska, GA; six grandchildren, Alex Brouwer (Jeff), Thatcher Brouwer (Tracy), Ben Brouwer (Rebecca), Brook Brouwer (Louisa), Emily Brouwer (Anna) and Susannah Brouwer (Maulik); along with four great-grandchildren, many nephews and her favorite niece Caryl Mason-Carr. In accordance with her wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In JoAn’s memory, she established a scholarship fund at Bridgewater State University. Her generous gift will be used at BSU to help future educators obtain a degree and pursue their careers in teaching for generations to come.
