Joan E. Casey

Joan Casey, daughter of Uldene and Dominick Capuciati, passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2022 at the age of 83. Joan was born in Queens, NY and raised in Ivoryton, CT. Joan leaves behind her four beloved siblings, her older brother Peter and younger sisters, Nancy, Rose Marie, and Shirley. Joan graduated with an English major from the University of Connecticut. In a relatively progressive decision for the time, Joan returned to NYC upon graduating, taking a job at the Ford Foundation. It was in NYC where Joan met her late husband of 49+ years, Jack Casey. Joan had four children within five years while still working at Marketing Action, impressively keeping things on track both in the office and at home. Joan was a caring mother and is survived by her four children, Sean ( Laura) Casey, Kevin (Meghan) Casey, Christine (Patrick) McCarthy, and Sharon (Todd Ertel) Casey; and five grandchildren, John, Kelly, Morgan, Jackson, and McKenna. Joan was delightfully social and well-liked by all. She was recognized for her intelligence, charming personality, and especially her positivity. Joan had a keen sense of adventure and loved to travel to all corners of the world with family and close friends. She was an avid social sports enthusiast, playing tennis, paddle, golf, and other sports. In paddle, she often referred to her and her partner's dominance, noting that her partner was a lefty! When she was not playing sports, she enjoyed watching her U Conn women's basketball team, as the Huskies usually triumphed on the court! Her sharp intelligence was easy to see by anyone who played bridge with her. Joan's bridge skills were recognized as she achieved the coveted life master bridge status in 2003. She will be missed by many that were fortunate enough to know such a special woman. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 3 PM to 5 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
