Joan Marilyn DeFerrari

Joan M. DeFerrari of Bonita Springs, FL passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at her home at The Renaissance, part of The Terraces at Bonita Springs. Formerly from North Reading, MA, Moorestown, Mt. Laurel and Ocean City, NJ, West Chester, PA, Dallas TX and Vienna, VA, she had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 1991. Born Joan M. Carr on October 17th 1934 to William H. Carr and Marion A. Atherton in Massachusetts, she went to school in Reading where she met her husband to be Joe. Through 54 years of marriage, they were inseparable, where you saw one, you saw the other. A loving wife and mother, she worked while Joe attended college (Babson) then she concentrated mostly on raising her two children, Paul J. (Ray) DeFerrari of Atlanta, GA and Lisa D. (Eric) Litschi of Bernardsville, NJ and volunteering at Burlington County Hospital in NJ. Grandmother to Melissa Ann (Wen) Litschi, Blair DeFerrari Litschi, and Joseph Patrick Litschi and ‘Grammy’ to extended family, Allen (Melissa) Weeks and children Kaedin and Riley of Jenkinsburg, GA and Annecia Lewis of Williamston, NC. Joan enjoyed being with family and friends sharing laughs, song, food, precious times, and cherished memories. Yet a nice quiet evening at home was great too. To know Joan was to love her and she loved all right back. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marion, her husband Joe, her sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Rod Christian, and her siblings-in-law William and Pat and Ron (Laurel) DeFerrari. Joan is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, by her sisters-in-law Barbara (the late Dick) Anderson and Pat DeFerrari-Willis, and her lifelong friend Joyce (Dick) Spindler. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude for all those who cared for Joan from her doctor, to private caregivers and esp. Vilcia Viler whose loving care helped Joan so much. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs. Entombment will follow at Palm Royale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family also suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Lewy Body Dementia Association at https://www.lbda.org/donate/ Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Family Owned Since 1978.
