John P. Garvey

John “Rory” Garvey, 85, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on November 27, 2025. Born on June 29, 1940, in Castlebar, Ireland, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gertrude Garvey. At the age of seventeen, John immigrated to the United States, where he would meet his beloved wife, Nancy, and build a foundation for generations to come. John studied Business Administration at Villanova University and went on to enjoy a distinguished 32-year career with The Stouffer Restaurant Corporation, a subsidiary of Nestlé Corporation. He began working part-time as a busboy in college and retired in 1991 as the National Vice President of Operations. John was a man of deep faith. He was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, and he volunteered his time in retirement to Habitat for Humanity. John himself was an avid golfer and quite the pool shark. Whether on the green or over the felt, he sank impossible shots with quiet confidence and a cheeky grin. A lifelong sports fan, you would often find him cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, the Villanova Wildcats, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. His greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, both in the U.S. and Ireland. John is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Nancy J. Garvey of Bonita Springs, FL; his sons, John P. Garvey, Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Westport, CT, and Thomas D. Garvey and his wife, Jennifer of Wilton, CT; his brothers, Killian Garvey of Greystones, Ireland, and Neil Garvey of Tuam, Ireland; and his sister, Deirdre Cosgrove Garvey of Westport, Ireland. John is also survived by his eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild to be: Katherine, Stephanie, Alexandra, Michelle, Christina, Thomas, Juliette, and Sean. His legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in all who knew him. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, 19680 Cypress View Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33967. John will be laid to rest on Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Garden at Our Lady of Light. May he rest in God’s eternal peace.
