John R. Green Jr.

John R. Green, Jr., 85, of Bonita Springs, Florida and Sister Bay, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 18, 1934, the son of John R. Green and Margaret Elizabeth Green. John was a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Engineering and held an MBA from Wayne State University and a Science Masters in Industrial Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow. John spent half of his business career at Chrysler Corporation where he served as plant manager of the Indianapolis Foundry and the Twinsburg Ohio Stamping Plant. He spent the remainder of his career at Rockwell International Corporation holding a variety of positions Running divisions and groups of divisions. He served as Corporate Vice President of Operations, and finally as President of the Admiral Group. He followed Admiral when it was purchased by Magic Chef Corporation where he retired as President and Chief Operating Officer in 1986. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi social fraternity, the Magna Cum Laude Society, the Society of Sloan Fellows, the Gamma Epsilon Engineering honorary society, and the Chaine de Rotisserurs. He was also a member of the Pittsburgh Field Club, the Highland Golf and Country Club of Indianapolis, Indiana, the Marines’ Memorial Club of San Francisco, California, the Knollwood Club of Lake Forest, Illinois, Muirfield Village Country Club in Dublin, Ohio, Medinah Country Club, the Horseshoe Bay Golf Club, and the Bonita Bay Club of Bonita Springs, Florida. He served on the Board of Directors of Magic Chef, Inc., Huffy Corporation, and the Saint Andrews Society of Southwest Florida. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Calvary and as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force. John wasted his youth as a proper scoundrel and tournament bridge player (a Life Master ranking in college). After a somewhat useful career, he retired at age 52. He and his wife Norma moved to Bonita Springs, Florida where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his friends, many of whom plucked him like a chicken. John and Norma spent their summers in his beloved shore properties in Door County Wisconsin and her Beautiful Condominium overlooking Millennium Park in Chicago. They have traveled the world extensively (and expensively). John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Norma (nee Backstrom), his daughter, Stephanie Green M.D. of Woodbridge, Ct., his son, John R. Green, III, of Columbia, S.C., two stepchildren, Nancy Goodmonson of Orlando, Fl., and Robert I. Goodmonson Jr. of Los Angeles, Ca. and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs, Fl., and at the Church of the Atonement, Fish Creek, Wisconsin.
