Joseph D. Heard Jr.

Joseph Daniel Heard Jr., 80, of Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully on March 25, 2018. From his birth in Philadelphia, PA to his death on Palm Sunday, Joe filled his life with faith, family, and dear friends. He generously enriched the lives of all those who encountered him. Joe was born to Joseph & Isabel (Connor) Heard. He grew up in Philadelphia and attended North Catholic. During high school, he met his future wife Marie Clair (nee McFadden) who was drawn to his fun-loving personality, roller skating and dancing skills. After graduating, Joe enlisted in the Marine Corps. He embodied the core values of a Marine – Honor, Courage and Commitment. After serving his country, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Marie in 1959 and they moved into their new home in Warminster, PA. Together they had four children and moved to Ventnor, N.J. He became an options trader on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, eventually owning his own firm. He loved his work and truly enjoyed everyone he worked with “on the floor”. Later in life, he moved to Bonita Springs, FL. Joe’s interests included golfing, boating, travel, tennis, good Italian food and his faith. He loved spending time with his friends and family doing these activities or just relaxing on the deck or watching football. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 58 years, Marie. Left to remember him as a loving and wonderful father is Joe’s children: Beth Ann (Brian) Bottesini, Joseph Heard III, Edward Heard and Margaret Heard (Jeff Volkmann). Papa Joe or Pop will be greatly missed by his adoring grandchildren Clarissa (Couper) Moorhead, Nicholas (Abby) Bottesini, Jonathan Gallagher, Ryan Bottesini, Madison Gallagher (Giovanni Marzetti), Kaila Gallagher, Cassidy Gallagher, Andrew Gallagher, Alexandra Heard, Sean Heard; and great-granddaughter Sierra Moorhead. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Moeser, her husband, Al, and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan Keenan. He will be remembered for his honesty, loyalty, kindness, generosity, devotion to his family, and being a great guy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2PM at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Estero, FL followed by burial in Our Lady of Light Memorial Garden with Military Honors.
