Juliana Marie Phillips

On April 10th, with her family at her bedside, Juliana Phillips died at her home in Naples, Florida. She was 75 and had waged a brave fight against cancer for over a year. Born in East Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Genevieve (Bralski) and John Orkwis, Juliana graduated from Kiski Area High School in 1965 and attended Robert Morris University before moving to Washington, D.C. to work at the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 1969 she married her high school sweetheart, George Phillips, having first met him when they were together in the 7th Grade. With her infectious laughter and sense of humor, Juliana made friends easily and was always a welcome addition at their parties and other social gatherings. She and George were generous donors to many charities, most notably the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County and the Founders Scholarship Fund, Naples, FL. An enthusiastic and accomplished golfer, Juliana loved taking golf trips and traveling overseas with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her many friends and activities at Club Pelican Bay in Naples, FL and Bald Peak Colony Club in NH. But she was happiest when she was either doting on her grandchildren, caring for her beautiful gardens and home interiors, or taking a sunset cruise with George and family members on Lake Winnipesaukee, in front of their summer home in New Hampshire. She is survived by George, her devoted husband of 53 years, her son Chris of Naples, FL, and her two daughters, Kim Bruno (Michael) of Wellesley, MA and Jill Hamad (Rami) of Boston, MA. Also surviving her are her two grandsons, Tucker Bruno and Bode Hamad, and her granddaughter, Morgan Bruno; her brother, James Orkwis of Vandergrift, PA, her sisters Priscilla Durlak (Donald) of Sewickley, PA and Amy Kuruc (Michael) of Mt. Washington, PA, her brother-in-law, Gabe Phillips of Boca Raton, FL, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. William Catholic Church on Thursday, April 27, 2023 starting at 9:45am. A Celebration of Her Life will follow immediately after mass at Club Pelican Bay. Donations in Juliana’s memory can be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Boston, MA or the Boys and Girls Club of Collier County. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Family Owned Since 1978.
