Louis Adelard LaBonte

Louis Adelard LaBonte, 88, of Estero, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 16, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on December 23, 1937, in Putnam, Connecticut, Lou was the son of the late Fernand Honorius LaBonte and Jane A. (Satti) LaBonte. He was raised in New England and attended Cole Trade School in Southbridge, Massachusetts, before beginning his career as a timekeeper during the construction of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Lou spent many years living in Southbridge, Sturbridge, and Oxford, Massachusetts, where he built both his career and a strong sense of community. He dedicated much of his working life to the construction industry, proudly serving as a member of Laborers’ Local 51 and working for Harvey Construction out of Worcester. His hard work and leadership led him to retire at the age of 58 as a respected project superintendent. In his earlier years, Lou was an active member of the Sturbridge Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as captain of the Musters team and earned numerous competition victories. He was also an avid athlete, enjoying baseball in his youth and later becoming an accomplished tennis player, winning multiple first-place tournaments during his years in Florida. Lou cherished his time spent at Old Orchard Beach in Maine and later enjoyed 24 years living in Florida. A devoted fan of New England sports, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Faith and family were central to Lou’s life. A devoted member of the Catholic Church, he found great joy in supporting his children and grandchildren, rarely missing their sporting events and milestones. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, hobbies that brought him peace and happiness. He is survived by his partner of seven years, Paulette Cooke of Estero, Florida; his son James LaBonte and wife Donna of Warwick, Rhode Island; his son Steven “Beaver” Coleman and wife Bonnie of Massachusetts; and his son Michael Coleman and wife Renee of Massachusetts. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Fred LaBonte and wife Joanne of Southbridge, Massachusetts. Lou was the proud grandfather of 14, great-grandfather of 30, and great-great-grandfather of 4. He also leaves behind a niece, a nephew, many great-nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends, especially those from Corkscrew Woodlands, Everglades Kite Circle, in Estero, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents; his first and second wives, Patricia A. Ashleigh and Ruth G. (Beaupre) Coleman; his son Michael LaBonte; his daughter Deborah Howlette; his son John “JC” Coleman; his grandson Michael LaBonte Jr.; and his granddaughters Rebecca LaBonte and Kerri Coleman. Lou will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family, his devotion to faith, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life.
