Michael J. Dunn Jr.

Michael J. Dunn, Jr., endearingly known as Mike, 71, of Naples, FL died Monday, September 14, 2020 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born July 8, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA a son of the late Michael J. and Olivia (née Alessandria) Dunn, Sr. He had been a resident of Naples since 2014, after moving here from Morristown, NJ. He was a graduate of La Salle University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing. After relocating to the New York City area, he worked at Goldman Sach’s for 18 years where he served as a coffee trader. His position brought him around the world and eventually afforded him the distinguished designation of “World Coffee Taster”. Following his time with Goldman, Mike joined Suburban Propane as the Vice President of Product Supply. Over the course of 17 years, Mike worked his way up to become the President and CEO of Suburban Propane, which is the position he retired from in 2014. Mike was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan who took great pleasure and suffered much aggravation with his teams but remained a true and loyal fan. Outside of sports, Mike enjoyed golf, traveling and was a voracious reader. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. His favorite pastime was sharing a good meal and a laugh with loved ones. Dating back to his time as an altar boy in grade school, Mike’s faith was always very important to him. Here in Florida, he was a proud member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary J. Dunn of Naples, FL and four children, Kelly A. Dunn and her husband, Carl M. Ostergaard of Springfield, NJ, Michele S. McIntyre and her husband, Daniel McIntyre of Queen Creek, AZ, Michael J. Dunn, III and his wife, Stacey Dunn of Brooklyn, NY and Danielle N. Chambers of Ft. Myers, FL; and two grandchildren, Daniel McIntyre of Queen Creek, AZ and Samantha Ostergaard of Springfield, NJ. He is also survived by his sister, Maryanne Hoyt and her husband Paul Hoyt of Crystal River, FL; his brother, Brian J. Dunn and his wife, Laurie Dunn of Westchester, PA and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mike is predeceased in death by his brother Kevin J. Dunn. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home 28300 So. Tamiami Tr., Bonita Springs, FL. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 28300 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL. The Mass will be live streamed to allow for virtual attendance beginning at 11:25 AM on the Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home and Crematory Facebook page. Burial will follow at Palm Royale Cemetery 6780 Vanderbilt Beach Rd., Naples, FL 34119.
