Nancy Jean Pannunzio

Nancy Jean Pannunzio (Thomas), 91, Estero, Florida died on August 29, 2025 with her husband of 72 years, Andrew, by her side. Nancy was born on December 30, 1933 in Hubbard, Ohio to Roy and Harriet Thomas. She attended Hubbard High School and graduated with the class of 1951, where she met the love of her life, Andy. Nancy worked as a bank teller with her best friend at Hubbard Bank for a few years. She took great pride in her ability to work with numbers. Then the two high school sweethearts married on March 26, 1953 in Augusta, Georgia because of Andy’s military assignment. In 1954 they came back to Youngstown, Ohio to build their home and have three children, Sharon O’Prey of St. Augustine, FL, James Pannunzio of Albany, OR, and Karen Pannunzio of Avon Lake, OH. Nancy devoted herself to her family. As a loving mother she was always playing with her children, volunteering at their schools, attending scouting events, and entertaining both her own children and their neighborhood friends at their home. The house was filled with love and laughter. Nancy and Andy loved planning family trips to bring geography and history alive for their three children. They went to DC, the Worlds Fair, an extended trip out West, and many beach trips. During the holidays she would entertain extended family having hours of fun. She also hosted ladies card nights in their home. Andy and Nancy’s home was near her sister, Barbara, her brother-in-law Denny and their three sons, Jeff, Brian, and Greg. Nancy’s children and Barbara’s children would regularly walk and bike to each other’s home for endless cousin fun. Nancy was like a second mom to her nephews. When the steel industry in Youngstown, Ohio dried up they moved to Houston, TX where they enjoyed the warm weather, meeting new people, and being close to small grandchildren, Lauren and Adrienne. They both continued to work. Their big dream of moving to Florida, became a reality in 1997. They moved to Estero, Florida to be closer to her sister. Two of Andy’s sisters and husbands also lived near by. They were active in their community; volunteering, meeting neighbors, participating in community events, going to the beach, playing cards, competing at bocce, golfing (Nancy won several trophies she was proud of), and active members of Estero Church. They were rarely at home when you called, living the active Florida lifestyle. It was a fun place for their children and grandchildren to visit and go to the pool and the beach with them. They went on many vacation trips to Europe, Hawaii, and cruises to the Caribbean islands …. The two of them were inseparable and always enjoying life. Her candid conversations will be missed by so many relatives and friends. She was never in a hurry and enjoyed every minute of catching up with folks. Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Andrew. Other family members: her children Sharon ( Scott), James ( Becky) and Karen, her grandchildren Lauren (Patrick), Corey, Kevin, Adrienne, and Danielle (Ben) , her great-grandchildren Harriet and Cora. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Harriet Thomas, sister, Barbara, and her great grandson, Cameron. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Estero Church, 8088 Lords Way, Estero, FL with a reception to follow.
