Our dear sister, aunt, and best friend Patricia Greiner, left planet Earth Sunday, May 29, for heavenly regions unknown, where she plans to continue her journey throughout the universe. How does one describe a life so well-lived, she left best friends everywhere she traveled, lived, or worked? She was truly an amazing person. A stoic that loved greatly and was loved immeasurably by so many. Pat began her journey in Shelton, CT on May 14, 1951. A spring baby destined to carry with her all the renewal, rebirth, and childlike thirst for life that defines the season. She soon relocated with her family to Grand Rapids, MI where she spent her childhood. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University then headed for Chicago and the world of fashion. Pat continued in this field, a field she loved, until the death of both her parents when she had an epiphany. Deciding she wanted to live near the ocean, Pat moved to Florida and became a scuba diving instructor. She had many adventures but always made time for her family. Christmas would land her in Grand Rapids, and later Montana, so she could re-experience the wonder of the holiday through the eyes of her nieces and nephew—while only occasionally complaining about how cold it was. Outside of her annual Christmas excursions, and despite the distance, Pat made it a point to be at every graduation, wedding, birth, funeral, and reunion she could. She loved us oh so well and we are forever fortunate she was an unwavering presence in our lives for the time we had her. Patricia was dedicated to the McCurry household in Naples where she worked as a life coach, personal assistant, and close-knit member of the family. Pat and Joe McCurry developed a special relationship and went on many escapades together. The McCurry family will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Greiner family for all the love, care, and concern they gave our sister. Our Patty had many wonderful friends, too many to enumerate which is a disservice to the friendships she so cherished. Many have stood by her in her fight with cancer. She received so much love and support from her chosen family of friends that were such a blessing to her. A special shout out goes to Jim Davies and Sue Palmer who helped Pat’s family in her last days before, during and after the hospital. Patricia leaves behind her sibling, Linda (her “Irish” twin), James (Heather), Thomas (Julie), and William (Candie); cherished nieces and nephew, Meghan (Thomas) McMackin, Lindsay Silver, Danielle (Colby) Prosper, Joshua (Nicole) , Erin (Kyle) LaHonta, and Lauren (TJ) Szot; plus many beloved grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia Greiner; a brother, Robert Greiner Jr.; and niece, Amy Wickman. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
