Patrick D. Giblin

Patrick D. Giblin entered his heavenly home on March 26, 2026. Born in St. Louis, Mo. in 1932, Pat grew up in The Bronx, NYC. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School, he earned a degree in Accounting from Manhattan College, followed by receiving an MBA from St. John’s University. The youngest of 3 sons of Patrick J. and Annie G. Giblin, Pat worked concessions at NY Yankee Stadium during his high school and college years. As a bonus of his job, he was able to see many of the greats in both football and baseball play, leading to a life-long passion for both sports. After graduating from college, from 1954-1956, Pat served in the US Army, assigned to a Field Hospital in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Upon his discharge, he began his first job with the New York City Office of KPMG Accounting Firm. He later served 10 years as Director of Accounting at Columbia Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Division. In 1973, Pat became Senior Vice-President and Corporate Controller with United Virginia Bank, Richmond, Va. After the bank’s expansion into the Washington, DC and Maryland markets, the bank became Crestar Financial Corporation, later merging with SunTrust Bank, presently Truist Bank. Promoted to Executive Vice President – Finance in 1976, from 1985 until his retirement in 1995, Pat served as Vice-Chairman Chief Financial Officer. Holding a seat on the Board of Directors, Pat played a significant role in listing the bank’s shares on the New York Stock Exchange. Along with overseeing the financial functions of the Corporation, his responsibilities included major staff functions, data processing and systems, regional operations, human resources, and investment relations. During his 23 years in banking, Pat was a member of the Association of Reserve City Bankers and served on American Bankers Association’s Executive Committee of the Chief Financial Officer Division. Pat is predeceased by wife, Mary Elizabeth Rinn, wife, Sonya Allen, son Patrick, and brothers, Tom and John Giblin. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Katie Beckham Giblin, daughter, Mary Chenoweth (Greg), Christopher (Mary), and Gregory (Reta) Giblin. Surviving are 7 grandchildren, JP, Chambers, Alexandra, Grace, and Jack Giblin, and Andrew and Michael Chenoweth. Also surviving are niece Jennifer Giblin, and nephews, Tom, John, and Jim Giblin. While living in Richmond, Pat and Katie enjoyed golf and skiing at their home in Wintergreen, Va. Before and after Pat’s retirement, he and Katie enjoyed extensive travel. They were members of The Country Club of Virginia, The Peninsula Golf Club, Lake Norman, NC, Shadow Wood Country Club of Bonita Springs and Grey Oaks Country Club, Naples, FL. Pat and Katie became year round Florida residents in 2004, residing at Shadow Wood Country Club, Bonita Springs. From 2016 to the present, they have resided at Moorings Park at Grey Oaks in Naples. One of Pat’s proudest accomplishments in retirement was writing and publishing his life’s story. A devoted husband and father, a faithful Catholic, Pat enjoyed many cherished lifelong friendships. Proud of his First Generation Irish heritage, he enjoyed participating with the alumni of Manhattan College in Naples’ St. Patrick’s Day Parades. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue, Naples, FL on April 18 at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow in the memorial garden at St. John the Evangelist.
