Rita Marie Doody

Rita Marie Dawn Doody, formerly of St. Paul, MN, and Naples, FL passed away peacefully on January 30 in The Villages, FL. Rita was born on January 26, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Doody. She and her husband retired to Naples, FL in 1985, eventually relocating to The Villages to be near family members. Rita was a former Teaching Assistant along with her dear friend, Emma, at Drew Elementary School in St. Paul. She enjoyed a lifetime of active pursuits with her husband and family including golf, skiing, fishing, camping, boating, and snowmobiling. She also travelled the world with her husband visiting tourist destinations and remote locations on every continent. Rita led an exemplary life of faith and commitment to her family and to countless individuals less fortunate than herself. She was a founding member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples Park where she and her late husband helped build the parish through their generosity and fundraising efforts. Respected as a mentor and champion of the less fortunate, Rita was an inspiration to everyone who she came into contact with. She was admired for her ability to face opportunities and challenges with patience, wit, and empathy. Rita is survived by her children Dawn (Steve) Theiler, Mary (Bill Linstroth) Doody, Jim (Christine) Doody and Joanne (Jim) Fallon. She is the cherished grandmother of seven grandchildren, Peter (Tracee) Theiler, Sam (Denise) Theiler, Sean (Andrea) Doody, Patrick (Jessica) Doody, Martin (Maureen) Fallon, Rita (James) Kerrigan and Maureen (Derek) Cwik, and eighteen great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue, Naples, FL, 34108. Visitation for family and friends will be in the church beginning at 9:30 AM.
