Robert "Bob" A. Mercaldo

Robert A. “Bob” Mercaldo, 81, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House following an extended illness. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 7, 1944, Bob was the beloved son of the late Anthony P. and Frances T. (née Brady) Mercaldo. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years following high school, a time in his life he spoke of with great pride and honor. After his military service, Bob embarked on a professional journey that began with the F.W. Woolworth Company as a manager before finding his true calling in the life insurance industry. For 35 years, he worked as a dedicated life insurance agent with the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he built lasting relationships and provided guidance to countless families. In 2015, Bob relocated to Naples from Beachwood, New Jersey, where he quickly embraced his new community. He attended the Gospel Baptist Church and was an active participant in the Naples Senior Center. Bob was also a long-time member of the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club in Jackson, NJ, where he spent a decade sharing his passion for firearm safety. One of his greatest joys was taking his grandchildren to the shooting range, teaching them not just skill but responsibility and care. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Joan L. Mercaldo of Naples, FL; his son, Eric Paul Mercaldo (Virginia Ortiz) of Oxnard, CA; and his daughter, Lindsay Ann Burger (Bob) of Naples, FL. He was a proud and loving grandfather to six cherished grandchildren: Sean Anthony Mercaldo, Matthew Paul Mercaldo, David Robert Mercaldo, Lauren Elizabeth Burger, Christopher Andrew Mercaldo, and Matthew Robert Burger. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy McCrane of Newtown, PA. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL. A service celebrating Bob’s life will begin at 3:30 PM. Burial with military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
