Robert O. Glodich

Robert O. Glodich, 84, of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Cohoes and Menands, New York, Naples, Florida, and Athens, Georgia, died December 6, 2013 in Bonita Springs, Florida. Bob was born August 4, 1929, in Cohoes, New York, the eldest son of Omer Glodich and Frances Donovan Glodich. He graduated from Cohoes High School in 1947 and immediately began a career with the State of New York that continued for 38 years. Bob's long career with the State of New York was interspersed with several tours of active military duty including service in Korea, U.S. Army Reserve, and several National Guard activations, which resulted in 38-1/2 years credited service at the time of his retirement as Chief Warrant Officer 4. Prior to retiring from New York State service, Bob was active in Watervliet Elks, serving as Exalted Ruler in 1972 and continuing his membership until his death. After retirement, he moved to Naples, Florida, and became active in several organizations including Kiwanis, (Past President, Kiwanis Club of Naples, Past Lt. Governor, Florida District, Past Trustee, Kiwanis Foundation); Marco-Naples Reserve Officers Association (Past President); Platinum Coast Retired Officers Association (Charter Member and President, Past Southwest Florida Area Vice President of The Retired Officers Association); East Naples Civic Association (Vice President); and the now defunct Naples Community Hospital Citizens Advisory Board. From 2005-2012 Bob and his wife lived in Athens, Georgia, where Bob rapidly accumulated volunteer hours with the Athens Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife, best friend, and constant companion, Zan Mayo Glodich, formerly of Niskayuna, New York, whom he met in 1977 and married in September 1985; his children, Mark R. Glodich, of Valley Falls, New York, and Nancy J. Glodich, of Waterford, New York, step-children Richard W Mayo of Niskayuna, New York, and Dana Mayo Goetz, of Poughkeepsie, New York, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom live in New York, and a niece, Tracy Glodich Petres of Bradenton, Florida. His only sibling, Thomas F. Glodich, predeceased him in 2005. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
