Rocco A. Giancarlo

Rocco A. Giancarlo, 92, of Estero, passed away on February 13, 2020. He was the devoted husband of Rosa (Carlesimo) Giancarlo. Rocco was born on January 20, 1928, in Casalvieri, Italy, to the late Tomaso and Benedetta (D’Agostino) Giancarlo. He grew up locally, attended school and worked on the family farm with his parents and three brothers. During this time he met his future wife, Rosa, and exchanged secret love letters through a stone wall. In 1948, he was called to serve in the Italian Armed Forces. After his service, in 1954, he immigrated to Windsor, Ontario, to follow Rosa. The two were wed in 1956 and soon moved to America to settle in Detroit. Rocco initially worked odd jobs to support his family until he started his own business, Imperial Construction, to great success. The couple were blessed with six children, all of whom acquired a college education. Rocco eventually passed on the family business to one of his sons and upon retirement, the couple relocated to Florida. For Rocco, family always came first. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Rocco had a zest for life and could always be seen with a smile on his face. He made friends wherever he went, often striking up conversations with others. He was an usher for many years at his church. He was gifted with an irrepressible sense of humor and always had a funny joke or story to tell. Rocco loved to sing and would often serenade Rosa. When he wasn’t working on a house project or tending to his fruit trees, he enjoyed traveling to Italy or to his log cabin in northern Michigan. He was also a champion bocce player, and enjoyed card games such as “ Scopa.” Rocco is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rosa (Carlesimo) Giancarlo, their children; Thomas Giancarlo and wife Kathleen of MI, Betty Eves and husband Timothy of FL, Danny Giancarlo and wife Christine of MI, Dominic Giancarlo and wife Diane of MI, Susan Ames and husband Dan of MI, Julie Doherty and husband James of OR. Grandfather “Nonno” to 14, great-Grandfather “Booboo” to 2, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rocco was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. A Memorial Mass will be held in Our Light of Light Catholic Church, 19680 Cypress View Dr, Fort Myers, FL, on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Rocco may be made to Hope Hospice.
