Roland Chuquimia MD

Dr. Roland Chuquimia, 50 of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday night, June 2, 2024. Formerly of Chicago, IL he and his wife, Noemi, called Fort Myers home for the past 15 years. Roland was born May 11, 1974 in Chicago, a son of Ruben and Olga (Kanashiro) Chuquimia. He graduated from the University of Michigan before following in the footsteps of his father by becoming a physician, earning his Doctor of Medicine Degree at Chicago Medical School. Dr. Chuquimia did his residency at Miami Children'’s Hospital and had been a Pediatric Hospitalist at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida for the past 15 years. He was truly in his element helping kids and their families, and working with his partner physicians, nurses and other co-workers. Outside of work, he was an avid fisherman who also loved boating and golfing. Roland also enjoyed attending concerts and was a passionate fan of Widespread Panic and Jimmy Buffett. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and loved the Chicago Bears and the Michigan Wolverines. He appreciated the finer things in life and never missed an opportunity to find adventure and travel. Most importantly, he relished taking in all of these experiences with his many friends and family. Survivors include his loving wife, Noemi (Flecha) Chuquimia; daughters, Francesca Chuquimia of Charleston, SC, Jayleen Roman of Fort Myers, FL; mother, Olga Chuquimia of Chicago, IL; and brother, Ruben (Angela) Chuquimia of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Ruben Chuquimia. His family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Shikany'’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at Step of Faith Ministries, 6950 Bayshore Rd., N. Fort Myers, FL 33917. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Roland's name may be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at the Duke University School of Medicine, DUMC Box 3624, 047 Baker House, Trent Drive, Durham, NC 27710 (tischbraintumorcenter.duke.edu).
