Colonel Ronald W. Clegg, U.S. Army, Ret.

Colonel Ronald Walter Clegg, U.S. Army, Ret. passed away peacefully at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice on July 17, 2018 at the age of 77. Ron was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 29, 1941 to James Edward Clegg and Dorothy Kelly Clegg. He was raised and schooled in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania and Rocky River, Ohio. Ron attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1965 as a Distinguished Military ROTC Graduate and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Colonel Clegg served in various command and staff assignments during his 26-year military career and was a veteran, serving with Company F, 51st Infantry (Long Range Patrol), (Airborne) in II Corps, Vietnam, where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge. Colonel Clegg further served two years with JCS Project 404, Laos, supporting the Royal Lao Army's containment of the North Vietnamese Army's incursion into Laos. Ron's other assignments include the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, 18th Airborne Corps, US Forces Korea, US Army Europe, Central Army Group Europe, Headquarters Baltic Approaches, Demark and US Army Element, Brussels, Belgium. The assignments Ron most enjoyed were with the elite airborne soldiers, where he earned his Master Parachute Wings. Colonel Clegg was also awarded the Army Ranger Tab and the Special Forces Green Beret. Colonel Clegg's military career culminated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as Director, Plans & Training, 18th Airborne Corps. After retiring from the military in 1991, Ron moved to Naples, Florida and operated a family owned business, Friction Materials Florida, a national distributor specializing in automotive & industrial clutch and brake friction. Ron also owned and operated JASCO Properties, a commercial real estate rental company. Predeceasing Colonel Clegg was the mother of his two children Karen Margret Ranney, Colonel Clegg's wife of 24 years, Lis Hansen Clegg, and his brother James Edward Clegg III. Colonel Clegg is survived by his wife, Nadia Ouchattou Clegg; one son, Brian Todd Clegg; niece, Heidi Kwasney; and her children, Matthew and Kirsten. Ron was immensely proud of the children's diligences in pursuit of higher learning and passionately supported their efforts. Colonel Clegg will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors at a date to be determined. Details of the service will be released when finalized.
