Timothy "Tim" W. Voegeli

Timothy "Tim" W. Voegeli, 80, of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on June 18, 2026, following a brief illness. Tim devoted his life to education, coaching, and mentoring young people, leaving an extraordinary legacy that will continue to inspire generations of students and athletes. A highly respected mathematics teacher and one of Ohio's most accomplished tennis coaches, Tim's coaching career spanned 44 years. He began at Fairmont East High School, where he coached boys' tennis and soccer, and following the consolidation of the Fairmont schools, he led the Fairmont High School girls' and boys' tennis programs to remarkable success. Throughout his distinguished coaching career, Tim guided 20 district champions and state qualifiers while instilling in his players the values of sportsmanship, discipline, integrity, and respect. His influence reached far beyond victories and championships. To his athletes, he was a mentor, teacher, and trusted role model whose lessons extended well beyond the tennis court. His many honors reflected both his success and his character. Tim was inducted into the Ohio Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame, the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame, and the Kettering Schools Chester A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame. He also received the Ohio High School Athletic Association's Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity (SEI) Award, recognizing his unwavering commitment to exemplary character in education and athletics. In February 2026, Tim received one of the greatest honors of his career when he was inducted into the Fairmont High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Although his health had begun to decline, he returned to Ohio to accept the recognition and to reconnect with the countless students, athletes, colleagues, and friends whose lives he had touched over the decades. Those who knew Tim remember him as a true gentleman whose kindness, humility, wit, and unwavering integrity defined everything he did. He believed that students always came first, and his patient guidance, quiet leadership, and genuine concern for others earned the admiration of colleagues and the lasting respect of generations of young people. Former colleague Fran Eden perhaps summarized Tim's legacy best, saying, "Tim was in teaching and coaching for all the right reasons. The kids came first. He cared about them. He was a true gentleman." Former colleagues also remembered him as "an outstanding teacher, a magnificent coach, and a wonderful friend," "a gifted teacher and coach, a kind human being, and a quick-witted friend," and "the kindest, most caring and appreciative man" whose consistency, compassion, and sense of humor made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Following his retirement in 2017, Tim made his home in Bonita Springs, Florida to be closer to his family. After returning home from his Hall of Fame induction earlier this year, he suffered a fall that resulted in a broken hip. His health continued to decline, and he entered hospice care before his peaceful passing on June 18, 2026. Tim's legacy lives on in the thousands of students he taught, the athletes he coached, the fellow educators he inspired, and the many friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering example of integrity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Tim is survived by his sister, Susan DeLong (Beatie), of Bonita Springs, FL and his sister-in-law, Sue Voegeli; nephews, Matthew, Billy, and Tony and his niece, Jennifer; as well as numerous close friends. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Jean Voegeli, and his brother, Michael Voegeli. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home 28300 Tamimi Tr. S., Bonita Springs, FL. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until the time of service. A lite reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tim’s honor may be made to the ASPCA.
