Vera M. Burke

Vera M. Burke 91, of Ft. Myers, FL died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at her residence. Vera was born April 1, 1925 in Elmsford, NY a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (neé Hovanec) Lux. A former resident of East Providence, RI, she had been a resident of Ft. Myers since 1998. She was a graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, NY. After raising her five children, she worked for the Martin-Copeland Company where she was an eyeglass frame inspector. A devout Catholic, Vera was a parishioner at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community in Ft. Myers. She is survived by her children, Barbara S. Poirier and her husband, Keith of Ft. Myers, FL, William R. Burke of Warwick, RI, Laurie Ford and her husband, Raymond of East Providence, RI, Jeffrey T. Burke and his wife, Christine of Ft. Myers, FL and Bernice M. Dengel and her husband, Mark of Warwick, RI; her sister, Elsie Montemarano of New York State; 14 grandchildren, Laurie Reagan and her husband, Master Sergeant Michael Reagan, Andrew Perkins and his wife, Kristen, Hayley Segal and her husband, Julian, Michelle Terracuso and her husband, Wayne, Jillian Burke, Sara Burke, Thomas Ford and his wife, Kristina, April Ford and her fiancé, Jeff, Alyssa Sanek and her husband, Wes, Samantha Lewis and her husband, Scott, Jeffrey Burke, Alexis Dengel, Mitchell Dengel and Sabrina Dengel. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Burke in 1973. The family will receive friends Monday, August 22, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home 28300 South Tamiami Tr., Bonita Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community with Fr. Hugh J. McQuigan, officiating. Additional services and burial will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Vera M.
