Vincenzo "Vinny" Perri

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vincenzo Luciano (Vinny) Perri of Estero, Florida. Vinny passed away on January 9th surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with AML. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 26, 1938, he was the son of Vincenzo and Assunta Perri. Vinny was the youngest of 10 children and was spoiled by his siblings. Vinny entertained everyone with stories of sleeping in the same bed with his brothers, as well as sharing a single suit and car. The brothers spent summers in Camp Don Bosco where they competed in ping pong, checkers, and catechism. Vinny met the love of his life and future wife Rosemarie when he gallantly offered to drive her home because her date was too inebriated. He actively pursued her until she finally accepted a date, and they fell in love. Rosemarie and Vinny were married on October 14, 1962, and together they raised their three daughters, Suzanne, Debbie, and Donna in Staten Island, NY and North Caldwell, NJ. After a brief stint on Wall Street, he realized he could not work for anyone else and purchased his father’s deli, Perri’s Food Market, on 34th and 4th Street in Brooklyn. His daughters would join him at work during the summer and fondly remember listening to 10-10 Wins Radio at 4 am as they drove over the Verrazano Bridge to open the store. Vinny also ventured into 7up soda distribution, purchased and managed real estate, and acquired his real estate license. Vinny was street smart; everyone would ask for his advice on a range of topics such as which side of the street you should build a home to how to run a successful business. He never received a formal business education but was known to give better business advice than anyone with an MBA. He became involved with many community projects such as serving on the board of the Curtis Point Association and Hidden Lakes Association, the latter of which he fought for full paver driveway renovations which earned him the Bulldog Award. Although he achieved great success, he stayed humble and enjoyed the simple things including his $5 Montepulciano D’Abruzzo wine, Entenmann’s Frosted Chocolate Donuts, Hoffmann’s Banana Splits, and his 28 Rigatoni a day diet. Vinny enjoyed golf, playing cards with his many friends at Spring Run, and playing Bocce in his retirement years. He was nick-named Chairman of the Board of his Bocce team, Vinny’s Boys, which won first place at Spring Run Golf Club. Vinny also enjoyed many traveling adventures including a cross-country trip with his wife, as well as international travel with friends. Vinny was a die-hard, lifelong Mets fan. Vinny never missed watching a game, although he was famous for watching the first 3 innings, napping through the middle, and catching the end. Most of all, Vinny loved spending time with Rosemarie, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their summer home in Mantoloking, NJ. Weekends were filled with food, wine, laughter, love and listening to Vinny’s stories. The annual Lobsterfest was the highlight of every summer. Vinny is survived by his loving and devoted wife Rosemarie of 63 years; daughter Suzanne and her husband John Kracke of Manasquan, NJ; daughter Debbie and her husband Neal Godt of Delray Beach, FL; and daughter Donna and her husband Will Haiback of Brielle, NJ; as well as their nine beloved grandchildren, their spouses, four great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Family was everything to Vinny. He was an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was and always will be our hero. He will be missed terribly but will live on in each of our hearts. We will honor him by following his example every day of our lives. We should all live our life the way Vinny lived it, as written in his favorite song, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra: I’ve lived a life that’s full I traveled each and every highway And more, much more than this I did it my way A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 12th at 2:00 pm at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on January 31st at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Manasquan, New Jersey at 10:00 am. There will be visitation at the church prior to the service from 9:00 am -10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Spring Run Charity Organization in Vinny’s memory.
