William J. Bergold

William J. Bergold 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. Bill was born on February 6, 1944 in Cleveland, OH to the late William C. and Catherine E. (Poturica) Bergold. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean M. (Zehnder) Bergold of Bonita Springs, FL; son, William F. Bergold of Dallas, TX; daughter, Christine M. Neal and her husband, Jeffrey S. Neal of Naples, FL; two grandsons, Wesley S. Neal and Jason W. Neal. He is also survived by his two sisters, Audrey Hudak and her husband, Daniel J. of Stow, OH and Colette Ide and her husband, David E. of Lakewood, OH and his loving nieces and nephews. Bill graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, OH in 1962. He went on to play baseball at Villanova University and graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1966. Bill received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University in 1969. Bill was a certified public accountant spending his entire 35-year career with Ernst & Young. He retired as a partner in 2004, specializing in healthcare for the Cleveland office. As a member of both the Bonita Bay Club and Lakewood Country Club, Bill loved playing golf with his family and friends. Bill was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, Florida and St. Ladislas Parish in Westlake, Ohio. In addition to the Church, he was very charitable to many organizations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 AM on Friday, March 6, 2020 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 28300 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL. Additional services are being planned for Cleveland and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the William and Jean Bergold Scholarship Fund at St. Ignatius High School 1911 West 30th St., Cleveland, OH 44113 or to the St. Leo Scholarship Fund C/O St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 28300 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
