Angela May Mates Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Angela May Mates, 42, a lifelong resident of Fort Myers, FL passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice. She was born August 8, 1979 in Fort Myers the oldest daughter of David D. and Rita M. (Tracey) Southwick III. Angela graduated from Estero High School, Class of 1997 before earning her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Florida Southwestern College. Her career as a nurse was spent in the pediatrics’ unit at Health Park Hospital and she was most recently working as an instructor at the Medical Academy at South Fort Myers High School. Angela was very involved with HOSA – Future Health Professionals, enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader and was part of the first altar server class at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community where she was a faithful parishioner. She is survived by her husband, Claudiu A. Mates; children, Miguel Menendez, Olivia Menendez, Elizabeth Menendez, Adrian Mates and Victoria Mates, all of Fort Myers, FL; parents, David D. and Rita M. Southwick III of Fort Myers, FL; siblings, Shaun (Marilyn) Southwick of Stuart, FL, Dana (Jeffrey) Estes of Bonita Springs, FL, Nicholas (Tracy) Southwick of Mobile, AL, Kristina Southwick of Fort Myers, FL, Michael (Megan) Southwick of Davenport, FL and Andrew (Gabriela) Southwick of Zephyrhills, FL; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Jonathan Estes and her Aunt Diane Cramer. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, 19680 Cypress View Dr., Fort Myers, FL 33967. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 7:00 PM. She will be laid to rest on Friday, June 24, 2022 by the family in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Angela Mates Memorial Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors from Bonita Springs High School who are actively involved in HOSA and are pursing a career as a health professional. Contributions can be sent to The Foundation for Lee County Schools, 2266 Second Street, Fort Myers, Florida 33901 and mark it for the Angela Mates Scholarship or include a note/letter directing the funds to the scholarship. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, Family Owned Since 1978.
