Bruce James Washeim

Bruce James Washeim, passed away on March 1, 2022 while in the care of Hope Hospice at the Life Care Center of Estero, FL. He fought a long, valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Bruce was born in New York City, NY in July of 1931 and was adopted by his loving parents, William and Ella Washeim. He spent his childhood in Baldwin Harbor, making many lifelong friends. Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. and served his Country in Korea from 1952 - 1953. Upon his return to the states, Bruce entered into the plumbing trade where he excelled and advanced to becoming an instructor and author of numerous trade textbooks. While he was a hard worker, he enjoyed life to the fullest with a zest for life, quick joke and smile. Sailing became a passion which he shared with his children and many friends. At one point he was Commodore of the Setauket Yacht Club on Long Island. Upon his retirement he moved to Florida with his wife and enjoyed playing golf and bocce. He was an avid reader and loved traveling and exploring new places. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Rosemarie Washeim; three children, Mark Washeim (Eileen), Kurt Washeim (Christine) and daughter Barbara Ann Bernatzky (Chris); two step children Sandra Smykowski; John O. Smykowski (AnneMarie), six grandchildren; Melanie, Tyler, Torin, Kira, John R., Matthew and one great grandchild, John Vitaly. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in New York. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations to Hope Hospice of Ft. Myers, Fl. or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
