Daisy Ruby Smith, daughter of Maria Teresa Pujol and Carlos Yanez was a true Spaniard with a free spirit and a zest for life, who left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. On July 30th, 2024, the world lost a remarkable soul, but her legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering spirit continues to resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know her. Born on July 19, 1939, in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, Daisy embodied the essence of a passionate traveler. Her love for exploring the beauty of the world knew no bounds, and she often embarked on adventures alongside her beloved family. Acapulco, Mexico, held a special place in her heart, serving as her favorite destination and a source of countless cherished memories. Daisy's zest for life extended to her love for hot Mexican cuisine, a passion that was evident in her favorite foods. Her vibrant personality shone through in her hobbies, including painting, dancing, playing the castanets, and her innate ability to infuse any gathering with joy and laughter. One of the defining chapters of Daisy's life began when she crossed paths with her beloved husband, Bissell J. Smith, in Mexico City. Their union at San Agustin in Polanco, Mexico on December 26th, 1959, marked the beginning of a lifelong journey together, raising their children in Oak Brook, Illinois, and creating treasured family memories. An enthusiastic explorer by nature, Daisy embarked on an unforgettable journey to Hong Kong, where she immersed herself in the vibrant culture for several years, creating lifelong memories along the way. Delighting in the exquisite flavors of the local cuisine, she also embraced the nuances of both British and Chinese customs. During leisurely weekends, she cherished moments aboard her Chinese junk and embarked on brief excursions to neighboring areas. Together with her family of 4, she made their home in a splendid flat at Grenville House near Victoria Peak, reveling in the breathtaking vistas of the Hong Kong harbor. Her time there was truly cherished, fostering enduring connections with all those she encountered. Daisy took immense pride in her children, Vivian Busch (husband Bill Busch) and Bissell J Smith (wife Maria Carmen Smith), and cherished the role of a grandmother to Ian B Smith, Danielle D'Agostino, Connor L Smith, Nicole D’Agostino, and Camile C Smith (Meyer). Her love and unwavering support knew no bounds, nurturing strong family bonds that will endure for generations to come. She also lovingly welcomed Anka Grotle and Spencer Meyer spouses to Connor and Camile into her growing family. As a great grandmother, Daisy's treasured every moment spent with her great-grandson, Jameson. In the realm of sports, Daisy's competitive spirit shone brightly as she excelled in tennis, golf, and bridge, amassing numerous victories, 3 holes in one and bridge masters’ points throughout her illustrious playing days. Beyond her achievements, she found pure joy in the friendships forged on the golf course, tennis court, and bridge table. These friendships blossomed into an extended family, sharing countless moments of laughter and camaraderie that enriched her life immeasurably. Daisy's motto of savoring life to the fullest epitomized her individuality and fearlessness in expressing herself authentically. Her fluency in two languages and her passionate approach to life left an enduring impression on all who had the privilege of crossing her path. Beyond her immediate family, Daisy's impact extended to her deceased sisters Alicia Ramos and Odette Arajuo and her remaining loving sister, Ruth Yanez, and nephews, Pepe and Felix Araujo, enriching their lives with her boundless love and unwavering support. In the wake of Daisy's passing, we are compelled to celebrate the vibrant spirit, passion for travel, and lasting impact she had on the lives she touched. Whether it was a day exercising in the pool, a round of golf or tennis, or dancing the night away, Daisy's boundless energy and infectious joy left an indelible imprint on the hearts of her cherished friend and family members. While the world mourns the loss of an extraordinary woman, Daisy's light continues to shine through the memories and love she bestowed upon her family and friends. In the hearts of those who knew her, there will always be a little bit of Daisy. Though she may be absent in person, her presence will forever endure, a testament to a life lived with unwavering joy and boundless love.
