Gregory L. Mathurin

November 2, 1987 - February 2, 2021

Gregory L. Mathurin 33, of Coconut Creek, FL and a former resident of Clay, NY died unexpectedly at his residence on February 2, 2021. He was born on November 2, 1987 in Syracuse, NY a son of Alain and Cheryl L. (Shonitsky) Mathurin. He had been residing in the Ft. Lauderdale area for the past 2 ½ years. He graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High School in 2006 and received his Bachelor’s degree graduating cum laude from Syracuse University in 2010. He continued his education and earned his Master’s degree in Accounting from the Syracuse University Whitman School of Management in 2011. He currently was working as an accountant for the Watermark Lodging Trust in Chicago. Greg was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and was a member of the Bills Mafia. He also loved his Syracuse Orangemen and the New York Yankees. His true passion was for music, especially rock and metal music, and loved attending rock concerts all over the country and in Europe. He had even self-taught himself to play the keyboard. He recently was in the process of building a recording studio for his music at his residence. He had a passion for travel, especially Europe and had spent a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain. He is survived by his parents, Alain and Cheryl L. Mathurin of Fort Myers, FL and Clay, NY; his sister, Alaina M. Coon and her husband, Joshua of Clay, NY; his nephew, Clayton Coon and his niece, Maci Coon. He is also survived by his uncle, Allan Shonitsky and his wife, Diane Shonitsky of New Port Richey, FL and several cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2021 beginning at 6:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home 28300 So. Tamiami Tr., Bonita Springs, FL. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 PM with Fr. Hugh J. McGuigan, OSFS, officiating. To sign his guest register or to leave online condolences please visit www.ShikanyFuneralHome.com.
