Karen Joan McCaffrey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Karen Joan McCaffrey of Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully at her home on June 23, 2022. Born on February 9, 1947, she grew up in Allenhurst, New Jersey. Karen is survived by her daughter Becca Knuth and son-in-law Jim Knuth; granddaughter Jolie Knuth, of Asheville, NC; brother Neil McCaffrey and sister-in-law Cindy of Fredon, NJ; nephew Bryan McCaffrey (Erin) of Union, NJ; nieces Kellene Young (Ernie) of Austin, TX and Kirsten McCaffrey of Manhattan, NY; step-children Carrie Therriault of Trumbull, CT, Tyson Freeman of Santa Rosa, CA and Peter Freeman of Newport, RI. Karen is predeceased by her parents Jack and Kay McCaffrey of Allenhurst, NJ; partner Peter Alan Freeman of Easton, CT; and brother Bruce McCaffrey of Huntington Beach, CA. Karen was a passionate force for those around her both professionally and personally. She worked her way up the corporate ranks to hold executive positions at top luxury corporate travel companies in Fairfield County, CT where she lived for decades. In particular, Karen treasured her early years at Lindblad Expeditions as a cruise director and event organizer where she was part of maiden exploratory expeditions into places like China, Papua New Guinea and Antarctica. Karen applied her unique spirit to all facets of her life. She was a cancer survivor. Karen also donated a kidney to her ailing brother, Bruce McCaffrey. She lived a full life filled with laughter, world travel and many, many dinner parties with friends and family, many alongside her long-time partner, Peter Freeman. She will be missed, but not forgotten. A Memorial Luncheon will be held in New Jersey this September. Please contact the family directly for more information.
