Sharon A. Sherman

Sharon A. Sherman, age 78, passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2021 in Bonita Springs, Florida. Her husband Jack was at her side. Sharon was born in Pekin, IL, and grew up on a farm just outside of town. She went to a one-room school often helping the teacher with the younger kids. She learned early in life the joys of family and the rewards of working hard. In 1973 she married the love of her life, Jack Sherman. For the next 49 years, she applied everything she knew of love and hard work to build a successful life and family with Jack. In 1976, Sharon opened a one-room shop called “Sherman’s” featuring microwave ovens and other miscellaneous items. Jack remained a full-time lineman at CILCO and Sharon ran the store by herself for a year while raising three great kids: Marsha, Paul, and Sheila. The next year Jack joined her at Sherman’s, and they expanded the store, their selection, and added microwave cooking classes that Sharon would teach after the store closed. Sharon enjoyed talking with customers and having some laughs together. Over the years the entire family has worked hard to ensure the success of the business Sharon started. Sharon was deeply committed to the success of her three children and treated each of them equally. At Christmas time, the kids would enjoy the thoughtful gifts she selected for them. If one child’s gift cost more than another’s, there would be a check included to make up the difference so that her spending was the same down to the dollar. While exceptionally particular, treating everyone equally and fairly was a hallmark of how Sharon conducted her life. Throughout their marriage, Jack and Sharon were inseparable, enjoying every minute together whether grocery shopping or traveling the world. Visiting Alaska was one of their favorites. While Sharon preferred luxury cruises, when Jack wanted to be dropped off by helicopter in the Alaskan backcountry to fish, Sharon was right there with him. Whatever they did, they did together. Sharon’s home was a place of warmth, love, and generosity. Visitors often found the home stocked with their favorite food and drinks, and an itinerary carefully thought out for their enjoyment. Her love for family and friends was evident in the care and attentiveness she provided. Sharon’s quiet love, dedication, and hard work will reverberate through her friends, family, and the company she created for generations to come. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband Jack Sherman, three children Marsha (Rich) Sherman-Weiss, Paul (Bridget) Sherman, and Sheila (Tom Croke) Sherman, grandchildren David Weiss, Zachary Sherman, and Elizabeth Sherman, great-grandson Gabriel Weiss, and her brother Sam (Kathy) Birkey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen M. and Esther V. (Pfund) Birkey. Our family will forever celebrate Sharon’s life. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at the Sharon A.
