Abdon Babilonia

Abdon Babilonia, 91, of Estero, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples, Florida. Abdon was born on December 20, 1934, in Moca, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Julio and Elias (née Gonzalez) Babilonia. One of 14 children, Abdon grew up surrounded by a large and close-knit family. Ten of his siblings survive him today. Abdon had been a resident of Estero for the past 35 years, coming from Chicago Ridge, Illinois. After graduating from high school, he began a long career with Nabisco Foods in Chicago, Illinois, where he worked in the production department for 30 years. Following his move to Southwest Florida, Abdon continued to enjoy working and being around people. From 2006 until 2024, he worked at Panera Bread in Coconut Point, where his friendly and familiar presence became known to many over the years. A man of deep faith, Abdon was a faithful and founding member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Community in Fort Myers. His Catholic faith remained an important part of his life, and he was devoted to his church and his family. Abdon is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Nelida Babilonia of Fort Myers, FL; his loving daughters, Marian Flynn of Bonita Springs, FL and Lillian McIntyre (Bruce) of Mesa, AZ; his son, Henry L. “Hank” Babilonia and his companion, Julie, of Fox Lake, IL; and his two granddaughters, Candice McIntyre and Vanessa McIntyre. He is also survived by his adopted family, Robert and Carrie Marreno, and their daughters, Maddie and Olivia Marreno; as well as his beloved cat, Twiggy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, 19680 Cypress View Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33967. The visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Burial services will be held on Tuesday in the Memorial Garden at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community.
