Alfred E Denny III

Alfred Edward Denny III, of Windsor, NY, and Fort Myers, Florida passed away at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers on Saturday, October 24, 2020 after a heroic battle with Leukemia. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Michelle Rowse-Denny; his brother, Robert A. Denny and his wife, Nancy L. Denny of Anderson, SC; his nephew, Matthew R. (Katrina) Denny and their daughter, Rylee; his niece, Ashley R. (Seth) Westbrook and their daughter, Skylar; his numerous cousins from the Ranzetti family, and his lifetime friends, John “JD” Dietzsch, John Fountaine and Cliff Hennessey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred E. Denny, Jr. and Julia C. (Ranzetti) Denny. After graduating from Windsor Central High School in 1964, Al attended Broome Technical Community College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science at Northern Arizona University in 1971 where he majored in Biology. He joined the U.S. Army National Guard and became an MP. He finished his duty with the US Army Reserves as a medic in the 73rd Field Hospital in Upstate New York with his fellow, lifelong friends. Al spent his 30-year career as a science teacher at Harpursville Central School. He was a beloved mentor to his students and a dear friend to his co-workers. Al was always actively involved in coaching all sports, but football was his first love for decades. He played semi-pro football for the original Triple City Jets, Broome-Tioga Bengals, and Oneonta Indians. In addition, he loved to ski, run marathons, exercise, and travel the world like a true explorer. Over the decades, Al devoted his life to God’s work. He traveled to over 12 countries on mission trips with Sudan Interior Missions, United Indian Missions, and Volunteers in Medical Missions. His focus became to travel to Africa where he spent time in Nigeria, South Africa, and later in Honduras teaching with fellow missionaries at private Christian academies. Their outreach extended to the village areas including local orphanages. Al felt sharing God’s word was his number # 1 teaching assignment on Earth. His love for teaching involved children from all over the world. He was a member of First Christian Church of Kirkwood, NY, and Southwest Baptist of Fort Myers, Florida. Al will be truly missed by his family, friends, students, co-workers, fellow athletes, church members and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion, loyalty, incredible sense of humor, generosity, and kindness to all. Special thanks to his lifelong friends, John Dietzsch, and John Fountaine who helped Al keep his spirits up with love and laugher throughout his illness, and to his devoted and loving brother, Robert. A MESSAGE FROM MICHELLE My loving husband and best friend, Alfred Edward Denny III, passed away after a heroic fight with leukemia for over 2 years. He spent his final days at Hospice House here in Fort Myers, Florida, and went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Oct 24, 2020. He was a brave warrior throughout the last 2 ½ years of this battle. We would have been married for 32 years, but it was not long enough. Al and I met in 1976 and married in 1988. We were fortunate enough to dance, laugh, travel, and experience so much of the world together. Everything wonderful in my life existed because of Al’s love and devotion. My life is forever changed. Al spent his entire life making friends with everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. After graduation from Windsor high school in 1964, Al attended Broome Tech for 2 years and transferred to Northern Arizona University where he majored in Biology. After college, Al also joined up for the National Guard as an MP while still in Arizona, and later finished duty with the US Army Reserves as a Medic in the 73rd Field Hospital in Upstate New York with fellow long term, lifelong friends. Al spent his 30-year career as a high school science teacher in Harpursville, New York. Al was a friend and mentor to his all of students. He was actively involved in coaching several sports including track, girls volleyball, baseball, and football at the high school level. Al enjoyed all sports, but his first love was football. He played semi-pro football in Upstate New York for the TC Jets, Bengals and Oneonta Indians. In his spare time, Al loved to ski, run marathons, exercise, and travel the world like a true explorer. Al took a leave of absence for one year from teaching as he had decided to devote his life to God, and headed on to the mission field in Africa. Over the next decades, he traveled on many mission trips with Sudan Interior Missions, United Indian Missions and Volunteers in Medical Missions, where he donated his time, money, and energy teaching and helping children from around the world. His mission travels took him to British Columbia, Alaska, the Grand Canyon, South Africa, Nigeria, Peru, Siberia, Ecuador, Morocco, Haiti, and Honduras to name a few. This gave him a chance to praise, teach, and spread the word of God around the world as his number one teaching assignment on Earth. It was his special gift to coach, inspire, and love everyone he met by sharing his faith. When Al came to Florida to live, he continued to substitute teach at various Christian schools near our home. He was a faithful member of Southwest Baptist Church. Al also volunteered on Sanibel Island for the animal rehabilitation hospital, Crow, and Golisano Children’s Hospital. His outreach and contributions were continuous and never-ending until he could no longer speak. Al will be missed by all of his family, fellow teachers, students, church members, and closest friends, who will remember him for his loyalty, incredible sense of humor, generosity, and kindness to all. More importantly, he will finally be at peace in Heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen! Thank You, Al, for a purposeful and meaningful life. We will bring Al home to rest with his parents.
