Carol J. Mangin Gillespie

Carol J. Mangin Gillespie, 90, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples. Born on June 13, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Carol was the daughter of the late John and Frances (née Jones) Adams. Following the early death of her father, her mother remarried James Cavanaugh, whom Carol lovingly considered her father throughout her life. In 1956, Carol met and married Thomas Mangin. They were married for 30 years until his death in 1987. Throughout her working years, she held a variety of jobs, but the role she enjoyed most was serving as a hostess and waitress at several restaurants in the Chicago area. Her warm personality, welcoming smile, and genuine love of people made her a natural in hospitality and left lasting impressions on all who knew her. In 1987, after the death of her first husband, Carol then made Naples her home after relocating from Chicago. After moving to Naples she met James Gillespie and they were married until his death in 2003. She was a devot parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church in Naples and was a Franciscan. Carol found great comfort and strength in her faith. In her spare time she enjoyed painting on porcelain. Carol is survived by her loving children, Michael Mangin (Maureen) of Frankfort, Illinois, Thomas Mangin (Eileen) of Tinley Park, Illinois, and Colleen Murray (Shawn) of Cape Coral, Florida; her sister, Roberta Reilly, (the late Chuck Reilly); daughter-in-law, Christine Mangin (wife of the late Patrick Mangin); 15 cherished grandchildren; and 14 beloved great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Mangin in 1987; her second husband, James Gillespie in 2003; her sons, Timothy Mangin and Patrick Mangin; her sisters, Mildred Taylor and her husband, Clifford, and Evelyn and her husbands, Wally Pitcher and Don Corvino; and her brother, James Cavanaugh and his wife, Mary. Carol will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, strong faith, and deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the memorial garden at St. John the Evangelist where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, James.
