Dr. Daniel P. Becker

Dr. Daniel P. Becker, DVM, known to family and friends as just Danny, left an indelible mark on the lives of many as a veterinarian, educator, and beacon of unwavering positivity. With heavy hearts, we share the news of his passing on May 14, 2024. Also known affectionately as "Dr. Danimal," he knew as a child that he wanted to care for animals. Dr. Becker's journey in doing so began at Illinois Benedictine College and continued at the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. Being a gifted scientist and medical practitioner, the large portion of his practicing years was spent serving the Chicago suburban community with compassion and expertise, touching countless lives with his healing hands and gentle spirit. In a testament to his dedication to the field and his desire to inspire the next generation of animal caregivers, Dr. Becker later ventured to Florida, where he pioneered the Veterinary Assistant program at Lorenzo Walker Technical College. Over the course of eight years, he poured his heart into shaping the minds and futures of his students. His passion and commitment bore fruit as each under his tutelage passed the V.A. certification exam, a remarkable achievement that earned him the esteemed title of Teacher of the Year from Collier County Public Schools. Despite facing numerous medical challenges throughout his lifetime, Danny approached each hurdle with courage and an unwavering optimism that inspired all who knew him. Beyond his professional pursuits, he enjoyed simple pleasures like watching the Cubs play, cheering on his favorite PGA pros, following the adventures of Survivor, or just taking in the sun. Danny leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Richard C. Becker. Danny is survived by his beloved mother, Lynn Becker, and cherished siblings Richard (Therese) Becker, Dr. Douglas Becker, Steven (Susan) Becker, and Pamela (Don) Radcliff. He will also be deeply missed by his nephew and nieces, Andrew Becker, Nicole Becker, and Richlyn Radcliff. In lieu of services, those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to make donations to their local animal shelter, a cause close to Dr. Becker's heart reflecting his lifelong commitment to the care and well-being of our furry companions. While we mourn the loss of a remarkable soul, we take comfort in the knowledge that Danny’s spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched and the many students he inspired. In his honor, let us carry forward his legacy of compassion, resilience, and boundless optimism. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Family Owned Since 1978.
