Harold A. Rheel

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Harold Alfred Rheel of Bonita Springs, Florida announces his passing on July 16, 2025, at the age of 92. Harold was born on September 12, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Henry and Maryann (née Arundel) Rheel. He spent his early years in East Meadow, New York, and was a proud graduate of Farmingdale University. A veteran of the Korean War, Harold served in the U.S. Army, where he formed lifelong bonds—including with his future best man, who introduced him to the love of his life, Mary Ray. They were married for 66 wonderful years before Mary’s passing in 2022. Following his military service, Harold began a distinguished career with CIGNA Insurance Company, where he retired after nearly 40 years as Vice President of Claims. He also gave back to his community, serving as a Trustee for the Village of Manorhaven, New York, and as a Captain with the Auxiliary Nassau County Police Department. Harold and Mary made Bonita Springs their home 32 years ago after relocating from Huntington, Long Island. As founding members of The Nest at Pelican Landing, they embraced Florida life—golfing, playing bocce, and traveling the world together. Harold was a devoted fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets, cheering on his teams through every season. Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ray, and his brother, Tom Rheel. He is survived by his two sons, Vincent Rheel (Janice) of Mercerville, NJ, and Robert Rheel (Nancy) of Bonita Springs, FL; his sister, Diane Zeluff of South Carolina; and his brother, James Rheel (Gerry) of Long Island, NY. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Kelly Gregg (Stephen), Jennifer Siano (Michael), Whitney Carella (Tim), Ashley Rheel, and Amy Rheel; and four great-grandchildren: Stephanie Gregg, Tanner Siano, Mason Siano, and Cooper Siano. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL.
