Herman George Weinberger

Herman George Weinberger 82, of Naples FL. and Oak Brook, IL peacefully passed away February 22, 2016. Herm was born December 28, 1933 in Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Shirley J. Weinberger. Herm is survived by his brothers Joe (Weinberger) Kreft, Orlando, FL., John F. Weinberger (Lisa) Naperville, IL and two children Cheryl W. Nelson (Robert) La Grange, IL and Laura W. Jozef Downers Grove, IL, and 5 cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Aron, Elliott, Stewart and Elisabeth, nephews John J. Weinberger Downers Grove, IL and Joel K. Weinberger (Shannon) Hinsdale, IL. Herm was a veteran of the Korean War. After the war, he worked at a Ford dealership in Brookfield, IL. This was the beginning of his automotive career which led to his partnership with his brother John for over 50 years. Together they also worked for the A.M. Zelke Nash dealership in Berwyn followed by their establishment in 1962 of Continental Motors Group which specialized in sales & service of import cars in Lyons, IL. In the early days, Herm specialized in repair shop work with his brother John. Their repair shop came to the attention of Triumph Motor Car Co., and as a result they became an authorized Triumph dealer. Soon after, MG & Jaguar franchises were added and in 1967, Toyota Motor Co. offered them the franchise in Brookfield, IL. After a brief stint in that location they moved to Countryside, IL. where they continued building their business into one of the largest dealership groups in IL. Herm enjoyed racing cars as a young man, then turned his passion and talent to competitive golf. He played and won his class in several club championships at LaGrange Country Club. Herm continued his quest for golf at Pelican Marsh in Naples, FL. A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 27 at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue North, Naples FL. A memorial service in Illinois will be determined later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph LaGrange, IL., or Amita Health Cancer Institute, Hinsdale, IL.
