Jayne M. Manning

Jayne Merry Wight Manning, 80, of Fort Myers, FL and formerly Ogdensburg, NY, died of natural causes early Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Solaris Healthcare Imperial, in Naples, FL. Jayne was born August 5, 1937 in Ogdensburg, NY, daughter of the late Spencer Edward Merry and Gertrude Paquette Merry. Mrs. Manning attended the State University of New York at Cortland. She was then employed at the New York State Employment Office and later worked for U.S. Customs Service, both of which were located in Ogdensburg, NY. In 1991 she accepted a transfer from U.S. Customs Service to Fort Myers, FL and was able to see her earliest grandchildren more often while relocating her employment to Southwest Florida. Upon retiring, she was able to enjoy her passion in life, attending dance events and soccer games to watch her grandchildren perform and play. Jayne was also actively involved in the Ladies of The Elks, Coconut Road, Bonita Springs, FL and also participated in Red Hat Ladies. Survivors include daughters, Deborah L. Wight of Naples, FL, Susan J. Wight Simonetti of Fort Myers, FL, Julie A. Wight (Ted) Hummel of Fort Myers, FL and Laurie A. Wight (Steven) Sloat of Estero, FL; six grandsons, Aaron and Justin Simonetti of Fort Myers, FL, Steven and Christopher Sloat of Estero, FL, Michael Wight II of Orlando, FL and Daniel Wight of Fort Myers, FL; two granddaughters, Julia Simonetti (Riley) Hunt of Austin, TX and Alexis Hummel of Fort Myers, FL; nephew Paul Lunderman of Fort Myers, FL; and many cousins. Besides her parents Jayne was also preceded in death by husband Major Charles F. "Chuck" Manning who died November 8, 2004. Major Manning was a retired military veteran and is inurned at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, VA. Jayne was also predeceased by two sons, William Edward “Bill” Wight on March 19, 2007 and Michael Thomas Wight on August 7, 2017 (seven hours before her); and sister Letitia Merry Lunderman St. Dennis on July 8, 2015. A joint memorial service will be held for Jayne and her son Michael Thomas Wight, on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bonita Springs – Estero Elks Lodge #2753, 3231 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to Ladies of The Elks, 3231 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134 or Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, 9981 S.
