Joan Driscoll Lynch

Joan Driscoll Lynch passed away on February 19th, 2024 in Naples, Florida. Her devoted husband Tom was by her side. Born in Brighton, MA on November 9, 1935, to the late James and Agnes (Delaney) Driscoll, Joan was an outstanding student. One of nuns at Notre Dame de Namur encouraged Joan to enter a Latin competition which led to a scholarship to Boston College, where she was on the debate team and starred in several theatrical productions. Tom saw Joan starring in The Crucible and asked their mutual friend Gloria Thomas to introduce them. They were married in 1959 and moved to Pennsylvania for Tom’s career in the insurance industry. Joan entered Villanova University where she graduated with a Masters in Theatre and became a professor. Soon after, Joan completed her doctorate in Film at Temple University. Her dissertation is still being used as a text book. Joan became chairman of the film department at VU and created the popular Cultural Film Series, introducing international films to the community. Joan published many academic articles in notable journals, including American Theatre. Her book, Women Of The Passion, A Novel, sold to Christians with the support of her priest and Bishop in Florida. In addition to her beloved husband Thomas, Joan is survived by children: Maureen (Kevin) Brosnan of Belmont, MA, who was a Managing Director at Accenture and is now a Financial Planner and Investment Advisor, Thomas Christopher (Nu) Lynch, who was a Senior Process Engineer at Analog Devices, and Julie, who is a screenwriter. She is also survived by grandsons: Patrick, Christopher and Connor. Joan is survived by siblings James (Edna) Driscoll of Cape Coral, FL; John (Merrilyn) Driscoll of Toronto, Canada; Maureen (Denis) Clifford of Stoughton, MA; and Eileen Greaney of Newton, MA. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph (Judi) Driscoll of Walpole, MA and her Sister-in-law Coralie (Jay) Goerk, of Lakewood, NJ. She is also survived by cousin, Mary Twomey and late husband John of Milton, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Ave. N., Naples, FL 34108. Entombment will follow at Palm Royale Cemetery.
