Mary Jo Bagosy

Mary Jo Bagosy, devoted wife, loving mom, proud grandmother and faithful servant of God passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025 at her home in Estero, Florida. She was 83 years old. Born in October 1941, Mary Jo (Mom) was the beloved daughter of Josephine (Mimi) and Terrence (Papa) Donnelly and the oldest of four siblings. Raised in a close-knit Irish Catholic family in Southwest Detroit, Mary Jo attended Holy Redeemer High School where she developed countless lifelong friendships, including the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Bagosy. Together, they shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Their life was rooted in family, friends and faith – raising three wonderful children in the northern suburbs of Detroit before enjoying their later years in the warmth of Estero, Florida. A fiery, Irish redhead, Mom was full of life and fun to be around. If you could hear her laughter above the din of a get together with family or friends, you knew things were going well. She also loved to sing. Be it in a choir, to her kids and grandkids or simply out of joy – her gifted voice was always a sweet sound to hear. Mom loved to entertain, was a superb cook and had a keen sense of style. She often described her efforts in these areas as exquisite and was teased unmercifully for it. At the end of the day, though, there could not be a more accurate description of the fashion in which she did things. Exquisite is how we will remember Mom and the word will undoubtedly bring a smile to those who remember hearing her say it - frequently. Mary Jo is survived by her loving husband Dick, her children Rick (Pam), Beth (Chris) and Christopher (Kerri), her grandchildren Kate, Erin, Evan, Lauren, Brendan and Christian and her great granddaughter Grace. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Patty, and is survived by her two brothers, Terry (Elaine) and Bob (Becky) who will remember her as a source of love, strength and support. A Memorial Mass to honor the life of Mary Jo will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community 19680 Cypress View Dr., Fort Myers, Florida 33967.. Family and friends meant everything to Mom and she poured her heart into whatever role she played with them – whether taking charge, offering wisdom, sharing a laugh or simply being present. She was a guiding light to her family and a kind soul and source of strength to all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in everyone she touched.
