Mary Jane Schopf

Mary Jane Schopf, nee Boyles, 84, of Naples, Florida, died on Monday, July 17, 2023. Mary Jane was born on January 30, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter of the late Gerald D. and Hazel E. (Stearns) Boyles. She had been a winter resident of Bonita Springs, Florida beginning in 1996 and in 2012, she and her late husband, Craig, decided to make it their permanent home. In 2017 she moved to Naples, Florida, where she resided at the time of her passing. Mary Jane was a graduate of Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was a member of the Alpha Phi International Fraternity and a lifetime alumni member of Michigan State. She was a past member of Spring Lake Country Club, Spring Lake, Michigan, and Pelican’s Nest Golf Club, Bonita Springs. She was a volunteer at Goodwill Industries in Grand Rapids and the Salvation Army, in Bonita Springs. She enjoyed playing mahjong, golf, and tennis. She also enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, and she was always up for a game of cards. She and Craig traveled extensively but were never happier than when they hosted their family and friends at their homes in Michigan or Florida. Mary Jane is survived by her three children, Susan E. Hansen (Marc) of Carmel, Indiana, Steven C. Schopf (Steven Serrano) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Robert E. Schopf (Emily) of Grand Haven, Michigan; her brother, John Boyles (Janet) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her sister, Susan Lovejoy (Frank) of Bonita Springs, Florida; five grandchildren, Charlie (Kaitlyn) and Emily Hansen (Ian Beach) and Abigail, Madeline, and Olivia Schopf; two great-grandchildren, Luke, and Miles Hansen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Craig W. Schopf, who died in 2015. The family would like to thank the Bentley Village Care Center team, Avow Hospice, and Assisting Hands for the exceptional care given to Mary Jane over the past few months.
