Peter Nicholas Bergin

Peter Nicholas Bergin passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Vitas Hospice in Naples, FL after a brave and long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Peter was born on January 30, 1952, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Nicholas G. Bergin and Mary Harrington Bergin. He grew up in Milton, MA, where he graduated from Milton High School, Class of 1969. Peter grew up playing sports. He was on the high school tennis team and was very active in town sports, playing fast and slow pitch softball, street hockey and ice hockey. Peter graduated from Boston University in 1973 with a BS degree. He later received an MBA from Lesley University. With a mind for numbers, Peter found himself excelling in finance and worked in the burgeoning computing industry, earning several awards of excellence. During his long career, Peter worked for Honeywell, Prime Computer, Banyan Systems and Cisco Systems. He retired from Cisco Systems as the East coast Controller. Peter lived in Framingham and Grafton Mass before moving to Naples Florida in 2001. He loved traveling to the Caribbean Islands and enjoyed the warm weather. That led to his decision to leave the cold behind and move permanently to Naples, FL with his wife Brenda. Of course, visits in the summer to New England to visit family were always a pleasure. Peter had the gift of gab and a unique ability to connect with strangers, striking up a conversation with anyone he encountered. He always had a story, even if slightly embellished, that made them laugh. Although successful, Peter was always down to earth and not pretentious. He was never impressed by material gains. He only wanted to connect with others over life experiences and Boston sports teams. He loved watching his Boston teams with others and was fortunate to see so many championships. Pete was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Brenda Bergin, of Bonita Springs, FL, brother James Bergin of Bonita Springs, FL, brother George Bergin (deceased) of Naples, FL, sister Ellen Bergin Ahearn and husband Francis (Dan) of Canton, MA. He is also survived by niece Jennifer Ahearn of Topsham, ME, nephew Nicholas Ahearn and wife Sarah, of Milton, MA, as well as his grandnieces Elizabeth and Madison Ahearn. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs on Monday March 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of life and burial will be held in Milton, MA at a later date in the spring.
